Modesto City Schools recognizes that students and families have unique educational needs deserving special consideration. The following transfer options provide the opportunity for students to attend a school other than the school where their residency has been established. Each transfer option has specific requirements that must be met and is contingent upon available space at the selected site.
Beginning in the 2019-2020 school year, Modesto City Schools began offering the following:
Full-day transitional kindergarten at all elementary schools, with the exception of Robertson Road, and full-day kindergarten at all 22 elementary schools.
Expanded After School Education and Safety (ASES) programs to include transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students and eliminate wait lists.
Added RISE, Rigorous Intervention for Student Excellence, a targeted academic intervention program for students in grades 1-6 needing extra help, all available free-of-charge to families. Staff is committed to student excellence and continually looks for ways to help each student reach their greatest potential.
Plus, the majority of our school sites offer free breakfast and lunch to all students, regardless of income level.
An intradistrict transfer allows a student to request a transfer from their school of residence to another school within District boundaries. This includes incoming 9th grade students from our surrounding feeder districts who live within MCS high school boundaries.
Applications are available at any school office in Modesto City Schools’ district. Applications must be turned in to the school of choice by the February 10, 2023 deadline. Once students have been accepted on an intradistrict transfer, they need only apply at the next level (junior high/middle school and high school). Students must maintain passing grades, good behavior, and good attendance to remain on this permit. Exceptions to the deadline are: Current students who change residence, kindergarten, siblings, K-8 GATE Program, Fremont Open, and the IB Program. Transportation is not provided.
An interdistrict transfer permit allows a student to request a transfer from another school district in order to attend a school within Modesto City Schools’ district boundaries. Parents must go to the school district of residence to request a permit. The school district of residence will then forward the approved release to Modesto City Schools for final approval/denial. Students must maintain passing grades, good behavior, and good attendance to remain on this permit. Transportation is not provided.
